East Meets West: Jazz and R&B Video

Thanks to the filming of Matt DeSousa and the hard editing work of Mai Wada, we have our first video from our events up and running. East Meets West: Jazz and R&B was held on November 5th, 2016 and featured Gorilla Rotation, Balaganist, Ruby Room Orchestra, and Jazz Klaxon. Check out the video, and if you like it, join us for our future events!

Featured Artist: The Watanabes

We caught these guys in Roppongi for their EP release in November.  It was a great show at the SuperDeluxe and we had a great time listening to their music. Check out their video below, and if you like it why don’t you go and get their new EP? You can find it available on BandCamp, iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, and the vast majority of online music stores worldwide. The Watanabes are an international indie pop band performing and recording in Tokyo. They enjoy drinking banana juice together and are keen students of Ikebana. The band began life in the orange-laden prefecture of Ehime, and named themselves Watanabe in tribute to the warm and friendly people of the region, whilst also alluding to British indie favourites The Smiths. Three years later, they packed up and shifted to Tokyo in search of new inspiration and regular trains. We are in talks now and we should be doing an event together in April, so come check them out live then!

London CD Release: Cold In The Heat

Out At Sea is inspired by my fading impressions of my earliest childhood memory. I remember being woken in the middle of the night by my dad and taken to the window to watch the snow fall in the street outside. This memory has no sound, no movement and no colour. I cannot be sure that it is a true memeory or a fabrication. Maybe it's several different memories patched together to form one. Memories are fluid, everchanging and fading. Like water they flow and wash away and our bodies are like shipwrecks in that they can resist the tides for only so long.

Cold In The Heat contains 6 brand new songs and features collaborations with several London based musicians. This record marks a significant shift in the style of my music with a greater focus on instrumentation and more complex arrangements with strings, double bass, percussion, backing vocals, harp and electric guitar. Prior to 2015 I'd been living in Japan for three years. I came back to London alone to pursue my music and the experience of living away from my family and friends greatly influenced my writing. The themes of isolation and separation feature heavily in the songs. I released the new EP at the National Portrait Gallery in London on August 18th 2017.
