Robert Taira Wilson

Robert Taira Wilson is a singer-songwriter from London UK. Robert started playing the guitar when he was 7 years old and for the last ten years he's been performing his music around the UK and Japan. A talented singer and guitarist, Robert writes melodic, soulful songs. He is a regular face on the Tokyo music scene but also often performs in his hometown of London, England. Robert is an energetic and charismatic performer and his unique style of songwriting is complimented by his dextrose guitar playing.

''I find it hard to pigeonhole my music. I listen to such a wide mix of genres and I'm influenced by a lot of what I listen to. I actively try not to be folk, alternative, jazz, classical or world music. I try instead to take inspiration from all of these styles to create something new, something creative and personal. More importantly I believe that my journeys and experiences have inspired my music and songwriting most of all.

London CD Release: Cold In The Heat

Cold In The Heat contains 6 brand new songs and features collaborations with several London based musicians. This record marks a significant shift in the style of my music with a greater focus on instrumentation and more complex arrangements with strings, double bass, percussion, backing vocals, harp and electric guitar. Prior to 2015 I'd been living in Japan for three years. I came back to London alone to pursue my music and the experience of living away from my family and friends greatly influenced my writing. The themes of isolation and separation feature heavily in the songs. I released the new EP at the National Portrait Gallery in London on August 18th 2017.

Out At Sea is inspired by my fading impressions of my earliest childhood memory. I remember being woken in the middle of the night by my dad and taken to the window to watch the snow fall in the street outside. This memory has no sound, no movement and no colour. I cannot be sure that it is a true memeory or a fabrication. Maybe it's several different memories patched together to form one. Memories are fluid, everchanging and fading. Like water they flow and wash away and our bodies are like shipwrecks in that they can resist the tides for only so long.
